For thousands of years, in India, yogis and common people practiced the medical science of Ayurveda, this medical science is recognized as the oldest in the world. Before the civilizations of Egypt and Greece were born, India was already enlightened with the wisdom of the vedas. Ayurveda is part of the complementary Vedic scriptures. The Sanskrit word Ayur means "length of life" and the verbal root Veda means knowledge. Thus the term Ayur Veda means "science of the duration of life" or "the science of health". This science, compiled more than five thousand years ago in ancient Sanskrit texts, has been transmitted through time. More than a medical system, Ayurveda is a way of life in harmony with nature that emphasizes prevention before cure, although without ignoring the latter. The main objective of Ayurvedic medicine is to keep humanity healthy by responding to the fundamental purpose of maintaining good health and longevity.
